The Differences Between Docs & Desktop

View Details
NO LONGER TIED DOWN

Google Docs - is a web-based application for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations and forms. The web-base software allows users to access programs that are comparable to the ones we are accustom to from our desktops. The major functions of docs are parallel to the dialog boxes, shortcut keys and the menus of the desktop programs. The major difference is we do not have to be on one particular computer to access our programs. Desktop programs only grant access to users from a single computer; the one the information is stored / saved on. With Google being an internet search engine all that is required is to set up an account with them. After setting up an account you are no longer restrained to one single location or computer. The docs programs permit users to create and edit documents while online, and it allows you to collaborate in real-time with other users.

  7. It opens up a whole new world of flexibility when you don't have to be tied to a single desktop, as long as yoiu are comfortable with you files being on the internet. Of course, others can't see them unless you share, but it is just a little unsettling for some.
